Lucy Main Tweet

Lucy Main Tweet had two major influences in life -- extensive experience in the fashion industry and her childhood memories -- when she first learned to knit. Now she has combined both of her passions into Knitologie.

Lucy was a global fashion leader for Talbots, Evan Picone, J. Crew, and Bernard Chaus. As Senior Vice President at Talbots, she spearheaded overseas sourcing and production for Women's, Men's, and Children's Apparel, Shoes, and Accessories.

She has worked in New York City, Hong Kong, and Hingham, Massachusetts. Throughout her career she blended business acumen with creative sensibility. During travels to Europe and Asia, she created needlepoints in airport lounges and now has an extensive collection of pillows, framed pictures, and Christmas ornaments. Yearning for a new challenge, she turned to knitting. All she knew were four simple things: how to cast to cast to to purl.

Inspired by her mother, who calls knitting a "pastime for a life time from age eight to eighty," Lucy loved picking out new yarns with textures and variegated colors. Her relationship with her mother grew closer through their shared knitting experiences. This pastime for a life time has long united generations from grandparents to grandchildren.

Lucy has seen it all from yarn mills in Italy and China to the finest knitwear factories around the world. She has worked with factories where automated knitting replicates the human hand and has closely observed professional hand knitters whose work is exceptional. Lucy has translated her unique perspective into Knitologie, giving even the beginning knitter an immediate feeling of accomplishment.

She lives in Hingham with her husband John and Coco, their Coton de Tuléar.
