Foreword by Kim Novak

An all-access pass to the private world of Elvis Presley, as photographed by Thom Gilbert, who went behind the scenes to capture these stunning photographs of Elvis artifacts. An intimate look at the “The King” through an examination of the items he chose to surround himself with, this collection presents portraits, personal memorabilia, jewelry, fashion and knickknacks, and interior images from his homes and birthplace. Adding to this unique portrait of Elvis are inspirational stories from the musicians, intimates, relatives, producers, songwriters, costars and friends who knew him. Gilbert has created an historic collection that encompasses an in-depth cross-section of the people who crossed paths with one of America’s most beloved performers and the possessions and treasures that were meaningful to the man who was the most celebrated pop culture icon of the 20th century.

Acclaimed photographer Thom Gilbert's unique portraiture-style work with entertainment industry stars has been featured in Interview, New York magazine, Gotham, and LA Confidential. He has also done commercial work for Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Target, and Sundance. Gilbert has been named a Hasselblad Master and has received awards from American Photo magazine for Best Advertising Photography and from Photo District News for Best Commercial Photography. Gilbert’s photographs of what he calls “the Iconic Americans” have been highly sought-after. His first book was Soul: Memphis’ Original Sound (2014). He lives and works on Long Island in New York.

Silver-screen star Kim Novak was discovered while on a modeling job in California, and signed to Columbia Pictures. In 1955, she won a Golden Globe for “most promising newcomer,” and just three years later, she starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic film Vertigo. Novak's films include Picnic, The Man with the Golden Gun, and Pal Joey; her costars have included Jimmy Stewart and Frank Sinatra. Elvis Presley called Novak his “favorite actress.” She left Hollywood to pursue her love of painting and writing poetry, and now lives with her husband, their dogs, and their horses in the hills of Oregon.
