Untouched: Star Photography Before They Were Famous

In the 80s, a time before Photoshop and plastic surgeons offered picture perfect complexions, masking even the slightest imperfections, Johnny Rozsa captured the flawless features of Hollywood’s fresh crop of celebrity beauty. Rozsa recorded the pristine beauty and the exuberance of 115 stars on the cusp of fame, collected for the first time in his monograph, Untouched.

In Untouched, which includes introductory comments by Susan Sarandon, Rozsa (who’s been photographing pop culture luminaries since 1975) shows very private and intimate sides of some the world’s most public personalities [...] "I wanted to capture movement and drama in stark black and white and somehow present her as the Hollywood Royalty that she has become." Mission accomplished Johnny.

The honesty of each truly untouched image, coupled with the fresh faces of amaranthine fame we know so well, makes Johnny Rozsa’s monogram an instant-classic. He captures people’s vitality and early potential so well it is almost tangible on the page.

Untouched — Rozsa's rereleased book with a new cover — chronicles the decades he spent photographing some of the biggest names in the industry before they were world-famous, and before the publicity machine existed to the insane extent it does today. The resulting images carry a kind of unguarded intimacy that Rozsa credits to the freedom of creativity inside the studio — and not on the computer.

“Untouched” is a superb book. I could probably go further and say it is a necessary document of an era, because it reminds us that natural beauty used to be enhanced by the skills of a talented photographer, who not only possessed the technical skills but also the natural eye to capture it. And Rozsa possesses both.

This stunning set of photos captured the flawless features of Hollywood’s fresh crop of celebrity beauty. Rozsa recorded the pristine beauty and the exuberance of 115 stars on the cusp of fame, collected for the first time in his monograph, Untouched.

Johnny Rozsa photographed the up-and-coming talent in Hollywood in the 1980s. Now, a collection of his stunning Photoshop-free photographs are gathered together in a book, Untouched: Photographs by Johnny Rozsa.

Unaltered photographs of Hollywood stars including Carmen Electra and Catherine Zeta-Jones have been published in a new book. Untouched, a compilation of 189 images by celebrity photographer Johnny Rozsa, shows what celebrities looked like before the rise of Photoshop and extreme plastic surgery.
